Health Science Teaching Credential
jmcomicÂþ»N offers the California Preliminary Single-Subject Health Science Credential. This authorizes the teaching of K-12 health-related courses, including courses about child development, family life, human sexuality, nutrition, sexually transmitted disease education, and substance abuse.
All Single Subject Credentials include an English Learner-ELAS level, which allows the holder to teach English learners in their subject-matter classrooms. For authorizations to teach in English Language Development (ELD), English as Second Language (ESL), or bilingual classrooms, please see ourÌýBilingual AuthorizationÌý²¹²Ô»åÌýCTEL/CLAD CertificateÌý±Ê°ù´Ç²µ°ù²¹³¾²õ.

Norman Herr

Professor Norman Herr coordinates the credential and master’s programs in science education. ÌýDr. Herr earned his Ph.D. degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, and has worked as a scientist, high school science teacher, college science instructor, science education consultant, and professor of science education and educational technology. Dr. Herr is author of The Sourcebook for Teaching Science, Hands-On Physics Activities with Real-Life Application, Hands-On Chemistry Activities with Real-Life Applications, and numerous other resources for science educators. His research interests focus on Computer Supported Collaborative Science (CSCS).
