Health Science Teaching Credential

jmcomicÂþ»­N offers the California Preliminary Single-Subject Health Science Credential. This authorizes the teaching of K-12 health-related courses, including courses about child development, family life, human sexuality, nutrition, sexually transmitted disease education, and substance abuse.

All Single Subject Credentials include an English Learner-ELAS level, which allows the holder to teach English learners in their subject-matter classrooms. For authorizations to teach in English Language Development (ELD), English as Second Language (ESL), or bilingual classrooms, please see ourÌýBilingual AuthorizationÌý²¹²Ô»åÌýCTEL/CLAD CertificateÌý±Ê°ù´Ç²µ°ù²¹³¾²õ.

Professor Norman Herr coordinates the credential and master’s programs in science education. ÌýDr. Herr earned his Ph.D. degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, and has worked as a scientist, high school science teacher, college science instructor, science education consultant, and professor of science education and educational technology. Dr. Herr is author of The Sourcebook for Teaching Science, Hands-On Physics Activities with Real-Life Application, Hands-On Chemistry Activities with Real-Life Applications, and numerous other resources for science educators. His research interests focus on Computer Supported Collaborative Science (CSCS).
